TJ Woods headed into last year’s Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations track and field meet with high expectations.

Those expectations for the Grade 11 student at Denis Morris were fuelled by his Grade 9 results that saw him win a provincial gold medal in the novice boys 1,500 metres and a bronze in the 800 metres.

“Going in, I definitely had high hopes but I ended up coming fourth and fourth in the two races,” the 16-year-old Thorold resident. “I just missed the podium in both races and it was heart breaking. It was rough.”
